Have you ever reached a milestone—closed a deal, hit a financial goal, or experienced a breakthrough—and thought:
“I earned this. I built this.”
It’s a subtle shift. Not always spoken, but deeply felt.
We move from stewardship to ownership.
And that shift changes everything—how we think, how we spend, how we give, and how we lead.
But what if that assumption is fundamentally flawed?
A Defining Moment in David’s Life
In 1 Chronicles 29, King David stands at the height of his leadership.
He has secured the kingdom.
Prepared for the Temple.
Gathered the people.
And then he prays.
In that prayer, he makes a statement that reframes everything:
“Both riches and honor come from you… For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.”
David recognizes a reality many of us forget:
Everything we have… already belongs to God.
Four Truths That Reshape Everything
1. God is the Source and Owner of All Things
David doesn’t credit himself for success—he points to God as the origin of all wealth, power, and opportunity.
This shifts our mindset from:
- “I earned this”
to - “This was entrusted to me”
2. Devotion Flows from Right Perspective
When you understand that everything comes from God, the natural response is devotion.
David does not just give from national resources, but from his own wealth.
And then he asks:
Who will offer willingly?
This is not about obligation—it’s about the heart.
3. Generosity is Meant to Be Joyful
The people gave:
- Willingly
- Freely
- Joyfully
No pressure. No compulsion.
And the result?
Joy.
True generosity flows from alignment—not guilt.
4. Abundance is Not What You Think
We often define abundance as accumulation.
David defines it differently:
Abundance is what comes from God—and flows through us.
It’s not what you hold.
It’s what you steward.
The Real Challenge for Today
We live in a culture that constantly pushes:
- More
- Better
- Bigger
And over time, possessions begin to possess us.
But Scripture calls us back to reality:
You don’t own it.
You steward it.
A Question Worth Asking
What are you holding onto as if it belongs to you?
Your income?
Your time?
Your influence?
Your future?
A Simple Challenge
This week:
- Take inventory of what you “own”
- Reframe it as stewardship
- Choose one intentional act of generosity
- Do it freely—and joyfully
Final Thought
Everything you have… came from Him.
And everything you give… is simply returning what was already His.
Live—and lead—accordingly.
